Traditional Bohemian Residential Design

The Woodward Residence is located in a Historic part of High Point, North Carolina. The residence was built in 1931 and is a minimal traditional home in Emerywood. The couple has lived in the house for nine years and are now considering the options of an “aging in place” design. Along with making the residence a universal design the Woodward’s have also asked to change the style from traditional to bohemian traditional design style. Mark is inspired by the bohemian fabrics he sees when traveling for work so often. Holly has requested to add on rooms to the house and incorporate existing client furniture.  To accommodate the new request for accessibility along with their growing family Maelee Arnold Interiors has been hired to make the home accessible and to design additions to the Historic home.

A home that is holistic, bohemian, and traditional is shown throughout the Woodward Residence. The Woodward Residence has principles of nature throughout the household and will be replicated in the design through sequencing, natural colors, and transitional rooms. The entrance of bohemian influence in the spaces will provide an interchanging look with visualized texturized surfaces. Designed with the Woodward’s in mind, the space will resonate with those who appreciate art and design, but also to those who share a home.

Retail Project:

Late July my design class was presented a retail project. For this project in particular, we had to design for high-end fashion. Me, being the person I am choose, Tory Burch. I really enjoy Tory Burchs’ style and the way she represents her brand.

Tory Burch is an American lifestyle brand that embodies the personal style and sensibility of its Chairman, CEO and Designer, Tory Burch. Launched in February 2004, the collection includes ready-to-wear, shoes, handbags, accessories, watches, home and beauty. – Tory Burch, Mission Statement

Tory Burch is an American Life Style Brand that embodies the personal style and sensibility of its Chairman, CEO and Designer, Tory Burch. Launched in February 2004, the collection includes ready-to-wear, shoes, handbags, accessories, watches, home and beauty. Ms. Burch runs her company out of N.Y. but is wanting to open a retail store in Charlotte N.C.
The main purpose of the store is to provide a high rate of customers in the Carolina’s. Tory Burch takes great pride in the architectural projects that they finance for their brand. Tory Burch wants the projects to be of superior quality, setting new standards for high-end retail stores in the transitional city where Tory Burch, Charlotte is located. They are inspired by the high-end design that Ms. Burch sees in visits to luxury spas in Europe.
This particular project is called Tory Burch, Charlotte. It is a brick three story building from the 1990s, located in the city Charlotte, N.C. This is a transitional inner-city neighborhood; it has experienced resurgence in recent years, as some former industrial buildings are being converted to retail, and commercial uses.
The completed project will contain a retail Tory Burch store.E:Tory BurchRetail Floorplan-1 Layout1 (1)

Interiors have gold custom wallpaper, mirrored walls, classic lacquered Tory Burch orange shelving, traditional furniture with gold accents everywhere. A classic approach on Tory Burch.

An organic life style through Tory Burch is refined by an environment that is unified, holistic, and ordered. Tory Burch, a designer of both lifestyle branding and organic prints will take geometrical principles of nature and replicate them in the design through sequencing, brand colors, clean-line architectural, and many textures. The bright retail store is conveyed as a personal “Tory” state with its orange lacquered covered paneling, and dimly-lit overhead lighting, and sofas to evoke romance and allure. Designed with Tory Burch in mind, the space will resonate with those who appreciate art and design, but also to those who share a “TB” sense of pride. Like principles in design, the environment will be artistic, harmonious, and bring a unified spirit to the occupants through the space.

Commercial Design: West Hampton’s Elementary School

An environment that is unified, holistic, and organic refines equality throughout the West Hampton Elementary School. The Stingray, a metaphorical symbol of both deep thinking and leadership uses the geometrical principles of nature and will be replicated in the design through sequencing, school colors, curvilinear architectural, and art focused classrooms. The entrance of geometrical shapes in the spaces will provide an interchanging look and highlight visually textured surfaces. Designed with the “Stingray Nation” in mind, the space will resonate with those who appreciate art and design, but also to those who share a scholastic sense of pride. Like principles in design, the environment will be artistic, harmonious, and bring a unified spirit to the occupants through collaborative spaces.

Maelee Arnold Interior’s was contracted to design the third grade class room and activity space of the West Hampton’s Elementary School. The design must be harmonious and functional for children.

THE CONCEPT FOR RE-DESIGN OF WEST HAMPTON ELEMENTARY CENTERS AROUND THE VIBRANT CREATIVITY OF YOUTH. THE FOCUS FOR WEST HAMPTON IS TO ENHANCE CHILDREN’S EDUCATION THROUGH HANDS-ON LEARNING INITIATIVES THAT INTEGRATE ARTS EDUCATION AND INDIVIDUAL LEADERSHIP. INCORPORATING BOLD COLORS REMINISCENT OF THE HAMPTONS COASTAL SETTING TIES THE SCHOOL TO ITS SURROUNDING COMMUNITY. OPEN AND ACCESSIBLE SPACES THROUGHOUT, ALLOW EACH STUDENT THE FREEDOM TO ENGAGE IN THE OPPORTUNITIES THAT SURROUND THEM

Maelee Arnold Interior’s took the time to research the needs of third grade class rooms before picking out any furniture, finishes, and equipment (FFE). After researching, it was apparent that third grade is the grade year where children transition from single desk to group tables. It was also apparent that third grade scholars spend a lot of time focusing on science and math. To help incorporate third grade standards I found single movable desk that can be pushed-together to create a “table space” or “group space” for all the students. On top of mobility in the classroom, I also added THREE group areas that would give students a place to work on Science, Math or Reading; independently, in a group, or with the teacher.

I focused on a blue, orange and grey color palette that mimics West Hampton’s beaches for the classroom. Too much color can cause a “wondering eye”, which is not ideal in a school space. Not only was color an important element of our design but texture and shape was as well. I decided to carry a hexagon/ “honey comb” shape through out the third grade class rooms and activity space. Adding different shapes brought interest to the human eye

The activity space was by far the funnest space to design! I was given an empty room with curved walls. During my design process I had to consider ALL children. A design that would accommodate every one of the Third Grade. I decided to turn one wall into a “storage” / “slot” wall. The wall thickness has been taken from the standard 6″ to a solid 16″! The extra space allowed me to place the seating IN the wall. The idea of this came from children in wheelchairs. Disabled children should never feel secluded due to their mobility. When you add-on the extra width to the wall it allows children and teachers to GRAB the seating down and place it around wheelchairs.

I also added in PLINKO board, hexagon wall seating and a book nook for the Third Graders!
